Had an amazing experience for my birthday. The complementary glass of champagne turned into a bunch of glasses of champagne. Our waitress Maia was dope and even the GM was super nice. The tea tower was full of great bites and the croquette I ordered was classic. The extra course is included in the per person price. Definitely worth a visit
This is such a wonderful and unique place to enjoy an afternoon (or maybe late morning) tea time! 65 for the tower depicted, a welcome spritzer (N/A or Prosecco), tea, PLUS an entree is an amazing deal. Our whole party ended up packing our entrees to go because we were so full! Everything on the tea tower was phenomenal, with an exceptional mention for the buttermilk biscuits and jam/clotted cream/butter! The servers here are very attentive as well. We bought access passes for the year in hopes of returning a few times for day trips! (We are just north of Boston)
One of the beautiful overlooking place! We just order little things for lunch and same time enjoying this beautiful view of newport Rhode Island. They have this beautiful ambiance.
Impecable historic surroundings, fantastic service, and tasty tea service prettily prepared in perfect portions. I had the lavender spritz mocktail and my husband had the champagne as our welcome drinks, and we both opted for the short ribs entree which was delectable. Everything offered with the afternoon tea was scrumptious and amuse-bouche or slightly larger sized so you have the balance of being able to sample all of it. Our waiter (Owen?) was really welcoming and gave us the history of the building whilst providing superior service. We were quite delighted with the decision to spend our tea time at The Chinese Tea House at Marble House - quite delighted indeed!
The high tea was great. I've had better high teas, but this one was still very good. The location can't be beat. Right at the Cliff, in the garden of the Marble House, which is worth another visit. Beautiful. Service was great. The tea house is beautiful, the "Votes for Women" plates (replicas), and the waiter will tell you more about the history of the place and Alva Vanderbilt.
Amazing spot! You must have a reservation! Also you need to have tickets for one of the mansions. Everything was amazing!
At first I was a little nervous that high afternoon tea would not have enough food for the price but we left full. The food was incredible and so was the lavender mocktails. Thank you for making my birthday extra special! Reservations are required for the Tea House.
The Chinese Tea House at Marble House is truly a hidden gem in Newport—steeped in history and perched above the Atlantic with sweeping ocean views. Do note that you need to either be a member or purchase a ticket to the Marble House in order to dine at the tea house, but it’s well worth it for the experience. At 65 per person, this felt more like a high tea than a traditional afternoon tea. In addition to the expected tea sandwiches and sweets (which were not overly sugary—thankfully!), the meal includes a savory entree of your choice. I chose the braised short rib, which was tender and flavorful, while my friend enjoyed a fresh salad topped with salmon. You’re also welcomed with a drink of your choice—either a glass of sparkling wine or a non-alcoholic lavender fizz, which added a refreshing and celebratory touch to the experience. For tea, you get one choice per person and your own individual teapot. It was a teabag instead of loose tea. I would recommend the tea house to use two teabags in the future to increase the intensity because there was very little flavor in the tea. The service was excellent—warm, knowledgeable, and unhurried. Several staff members shared historical tidbits about the property, including its fascinating connection to Alva Vanderbilt. After her divorce, she kept Marble House and later had people build the tea house after remarrying. The last seating is at 3:30 PM (we made it just in time), and the grounds close at 5 PM. Despite the cutoff, we never felt rushed and were able to savor the meal and the view in a relaxed, luxurious atmosphere. This isn’t just a meal—it’s a serene and immersive step back in time. Highly recommend for a special outing. Elise from South Africa was very charming and welcoming. We enjoyed listening to her stories.
